This interesting commission first required
extensive research into the history of Qatari music
to discover what makes it distinct from other music
from the Gulf in order to best capture the spirit of
the architectural projects being planned there.   

Using archival recordings from the British Library
and a selection of recordings supplied by the
client, appropriate melodies were selected as well
as new material composed derived from the
rhythmic patterns and scales (or Maqams) of the
region.  

It was beautifully  performed by London based
Arab musicians from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and
Palestine, mixed with western classical musicians
based in London and Spain.
